There is a strong sporting tradition in our school and this is evident in the number of sporting programmes in operation including Gaelic football, hurling, camogie, rounders, basketball, olympic handball, athletics and soccer. These sports are encouraged at lunchtime and after school hours by teachers from the school. Inter class Gaelic football, soccer and basketball competitions are organised during the school year.
The school participates in the Cumann na mBunScoil gaelic football, hurling and camogie competitions for boys and girls.
After school football, basketball and soccer training is organised by Fr. David Brennan PP.
The school has participated in a series of programmes facilitated by the Meath Development Officer and funded entirely by the GAA. These include
- The ABC Programme; This programme is rolled out each year over a four week period and focuses on the development of agility, balance and co-ordination for children from infants to second class
- Skill Development; This programme is offered to children from third to sixth class focusing on the development of skills and match play including hand pass, pick up, solo, catch, punt kick, hook kick and tackling.
- Club School Link; Members of the Kiltale Hurling Club and Moynalvey Football club have provided coaching in the school
The Buntus Programme sponsored by Meath County Council and the Local Sports Partnership has funded training and has been a huge benefit in the implementation of the PE curriculum. Our participation in the programme is ongoing and we receive in-school support, and advice annually.
More recently the school has participated in the FUTSAL programme with boys’ and girls’ teams competing successfully.
Please feel free to get in contact with the School Office with any queries you may have.
